Attempting to Learn Guitar

For my learning project this semester, I plan on taking up guitar lessons.  I’ve always considered myself to be a musical person.  I enjoy singing and know how to play the piano and percussion.  Which will be helpful for me in terms of rhythm and pitch.  Both my brother and sister are able to play guitar; and my sister actually learned how to through YouTube videos.  Perhaps if I learn too my siblings and I can create a band.  The Woodard Family Trio… or maybe I should just stick to teaching.

Learning the guitar is something that I’ve wanted to do for a long time.  When I was little my Grandma gave me her classical guitar.  It is beautiful!  To end my learning project I thought it might be nice to learn one of her favorite songs and perform it for her!

I’m like Jon Snow when it comes to the guitar, I KNOW NOTHING!  I know how to hold the guitar and that it has frets (but where frets are and how to use them are a completely different story).  During this experience I’ll be finding videos online that teach different areas that I want to cover.  Because of my musical background I have a understanding of how to tune the guitar.

Learning about the parts of the guitar, and how to tune it is the first goal that I have for my learning project.  I also think that it would be interesting to try to learn some history or fun facts about the guitar throughout the learning project.  I’m nervous but excited to put myself out there and try something new!

I think this video from one of my favorite T.V. shows, Bob’s Burgers, really emphasizes the expectations I have for learning the guitar and the reality that comes with it.  (0:00-0:42)
